Broken Tip Sections

Broken tip sections are one of the most common warranty claims received throughout the fly-fishing industry. In the majority of cases, broken rod tips are caused by accidental damage, impact, misuse, or excessive loading rather than manufacturing defects.

Fly rod tips are engineered to provide sensitivity and performance while remaining lightweight. Due to their fine diameter, tip sections are particularly vulnerable to accidental impacts and incorrect rod loading.

What is High-Sticking?

High-sticking occurs when excessive pressure is placed on the upper section or tip of the fly rod by raising the rod too high during use. This causes the majority of the load to transfer directly into the thinner tip section rather than being distributed through the stronger lower sections of the rod blank.

·        Fighting a fish with the rod lifted too vertically

·        Attempting to lift or swing fish using the rod only

·        Pulling snagged flies free with excessive upward pressure

·        Lifting heavy sink tips, weighted flies, or multi-fly rigs incorrectly

·        Applying excessive pressure at short fighting distances

High-sticking is considered accidental misuse and is not covered under warranty.

Warranty Exclusions

·        Normal wear and tear

·        Cosmetic damage including scratches, chips, fading, or cork wear

·        Accidental damage, misuse, neglect, or improper handling

·        Damage caused by impact or compression

·        High-sticking or excessive rod loading

·        Striking weighted flies, split shot, or indicators against the rod blank during casting

·        Rods being hit against trees, rocks, boats, vehicle doors, ceilings, or other hard objects

·        Lifting, dragging, or swinging fish beyond the rod’s designed limits

·        Damage caused by line tangles around the rod tip during casting

·        Improper transport, storage, or rod tube use

·        Rods being stepped on, crushed, or bent under excessive pressure

·        Saltwater corrosion or lack of proper cleaning and maintenance

These types of failures are considered accidental damage and are not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty.
